SEVA’S IMMIGRANT INTEGRATION AND URBAN REGENERATION PLAN
SEVA is interested in delivering a self-empowering, civic minded alternative to immigrants by engaging them and helping them redefine their roles in society. the goalis to compel immigrants to become civic participants and see themsleves not only as immigrants, but also as consituents – a force eager to be heard in furtherance of integration – not necessarily assimilation. The Immigrant Integration Initiative hopes to transform all immigrants into visible community stakeholders, reaping shared benefits and creating a new whole New York City Immigrant Community that is greater than the sum of its parts. SEVA is also interested in developing ways to help immigrants become community and neighbourhood stakeholders to foster a sense of pride in their neighbourhoods.
LONG TERM PLANNING FOR URBAN IMMIGRANT POPULATION
This initiative focuses on developing critical plans that would be used to craft solutions to some of the immediate issues that the growing immigrant popuation livingin urban settings will be facing in the upcoming decades such as housing issues, seniorissues for immigrants with no retirement plans, savings or benefits, etc.
VOTER EMPOWERMENT PROJECT
SEVA seeks to increase the South Asian community’s collective power and representation by facilitating non-partisan voter registration on the City, State and Federal level.
